What are you doing to keep audiences safe during live performances at Nevill Holt Opera?

The safety of everyone visiting Nevill Holt Opera is of paramount importance to us. We are carefully monitoring guidance from government and other official bodies, and in order to ensure that our measures represent the most up-to-date restrictions and guidance. If you are particularly nervous and have specific requirements then please do just get in touch with us – we would be very pleased to help. 

What happens if I am unwell on the day?

When purchasing your tickets you will be able to add “Booking Protect” for a % of your total purchase. Booking Protect means that if you or a close family member are unwell on the day and unable to attend the festival, you would be entitled to claim your money back. If you choose not to purchase Booking Protect and are unable to attend on the day, we are unfortunately unable to refund your tickets. You can read the Booking Protect terms and conditions here

BOOKING YOUR TICKETS

How do I book my tickets?

Festival tickets and dining reservations can be purchased online through our website. The impact of the pandemic and lockdowns mean that we are unfortunately only able to run a reduced telephone service, so please do book online if you can. However, if you experience problems booking online, please call the NHO office on 01858 437 451 and we would be delighted to help you. 

In previous years, we have worked with Nottingham Lakeside on our box office but this year it will be managed directly through Nevill Holt Opera. 

How are you keeping my card details safe when I book with you?

When online bookings are made through our e-commerce system, your financial details are handled by SagePay – an external provider. NHO will never store your financial details. When orders are taken over the phone, we have robust measures in place to protect your details and to reduce the risk of fraud. Please contact us if you would like to see a copy of these measures.

Do I need to book in my household?

We had initially asked people to book in their household or bubble if possible, however the changes to government restrictions mean that this is no longer required.

Can I bring my children with me?

Absolutely – young people are very welcome at Nevill Holt, and we are delighted to be offering free tickets to under-18s this summer. We do ask that young people under-16 are accompanied at all times by a responsible adult, and that they remain seated throughout the performance. The subject matter of both operas means that they may not be suitable for children under 12.

Can I choose my seat?

You are able to choose your “Seating Zone”, but at this stage you are not able to choose a specific seat. This is because the required restrictions and guidance related to seating for theatrical events is subject to change, and we are confident that by keeping an element of flexibility in the exact seating configuration we can offer our audiences the most enjoyable and safest possible experience come August. If you do have a particular request then please let us know when you are purchasing your tickets and we will do our best to accommodate this. 

Will I receive physical tickets?

No, following government guidance we will not be sending out physical tickets this year. When you make your booking, you will receive a confirmation email outlining your ticket and dining purchases. During July, your e-tickets will be sent to the email address that you used to book.

Don’t worry if you are unable to use email to receive your e-ticket, or if you are worried by the end of July that you haven’t received your e-ticket. Please email us (admin@nevillholtopera.co.uk) or call the NHO office (01858 437 451) and we will sort out a solution. We will also have all your details at the welcome desk in case you don’t have your e-ticket to hand when you arrive. 

Will I need to wear a mask?

As the festival is taking place outside, you will not be required to wear a mask during the performance. 

What happens if my performance is cancelled?

If the opera festival or a performance is cancelled for any reason, you will be offered a full refund for your tickets and dining. You can read our terms and conditions here.

What is Booking Protect?

We hope you will be able to attend and enjoy all events you book with us, but we understand that sometimes life gets in the way! We are pleased to be able to offer refund protection through our partnership with Booking Protect. This refund protection allows you to apply for a full refund on your ticket and dining order should you, or anyone in your party, be unable to attend due to specific unforeseen circumstances. This includes injury, illness, travel trouble and other unexpected events. Full details can be found in the terms and conditions. The option to buy refund protection will be offered at the time of booking. Please note, the cost is automatically calculated at 6% of your order.

 

FOOD AND DRINK AT THE FESTIVAL

What dining options will be available on the day?

We will be running our usual dining options with reduced capacity in order to enable social distancing. You can explore the options we will have available here.

In addition to our usual options, we will also be hosting a small number of local, independent suppliers from whom you can purchase more informal food and drink options to enjoy in the gardens. 

Can I bring my own food and drink?

Of course – you are very welcome to bring your own picnic and to enjoy your meal in the beautiful Nevill Holt gardens or under cover in our greenhouses or picnic nooks. 

Where do we go in the long dining interval?

The traditional “long dining interval” is an hour and half (an hour and 15 minutes on Sundays) between the first and second parts of the opera. During this time, you can explore the beautiful gardens and grounds and enjoy a meal – either from our local suppliers or you are welcome to bring your own picnic. You can book into one of our restaurants, reserve a space in the Picnic Chapel, choose your spot in one of our greenhouses, or take in the fresh air. We will also have places for you to shelter if the weather isn’t great.

How will you manage social distancing and other health and safety requirements in the restaurants?

We are reducing the capacity available across the Kitchen Garden, Welland Valley Restaurant and Picnic Chapel in order to ensure social distancing. We have also taken some early decisions to improve health and safety such as replacing the usual Kitchen Garden Buffet with delicious individual platters. Following the most recent government guidance, the theatre seats will not be socially distanced as standard (although we have built spacious grandstands an deliberately left some seats off sale so that it doesn’t feel crowded), but if you would like to ensure social distancing around your party, please just email us admin@nevillholtopera.co.uk to let us know and we will organise this when allocating seats. 

How do I book my dining?

You can book your dining through our website at the same time as booking your tickets. If you would like to book your dining separately that is absolutely fine, we just ask that you use the same email address for both purchases so that we can match up your orders and ensure your experience runs seamlessly. Please note that dining booking for La traviata closes on the 16th July and for Don Giovanni on the 30th July. 

When do I make my menu choices?

We will be in touch with you directly during June and July to take your menu selections for the Summer Festival. 

At the summer festival, can we buy drinks on the day or do we need to pre-order?

You will be able to buy drinks at the champagne bar on the day of your visit to the our summer opera festival. However, we will have limited stock available, and if you are dining with us we highly recommend that you pre-order save time and avoid disappointment. 

Can you cater for special dietary requirements?

We are able to cater for any dietary requirements. You will be invited to notify our caterers of your dietary requirements when submitting your summer menu choices. 

What is included in my laid pavilion?

Your laid pavilion will include a main course plate, a small place and a dessert bowl, a teacup and saucer, a wine and water glass, and starter, main course and dessert cutlery. Unlaid pavilions include table and chairs only, plus table cloth.

 

ON THE DAY

Where can I park?

Free parking is available in the field opposite the main entrance to Nevill Holt, and is signposted. It is a few meters from the car park entrance to the gate.

How do I get to Nevill Holt if travelling by train?

The closest train station to Nevill Holt is Market Harborough, which is approximately a 15-minute taxi ride away. Although there can be taxis available at the station, we highly recommend booking in advance. 

What happens if it is raining or the weather is bad?

If we can safely proceed with the performance, we will do so. This means that we will be going ahead in the rain, and so encourage you to dress warmly if this is the case. Unfortunately we can’t allow umbrellas to be put up during the performance as this will impact the view of those behind you. If it is raining, you can dry off and warm up in our dining and undercover spaces during the long interval. 

What is the dress code for the summer festival 2021?

We do not have a strict dress code at Nevill Holt Opera, but most of our guests do enjoy dressing up in formal gowns and black tie to celebrate the occasion. Given the year we have all had, we welcome you to dress up and make the most of the occasion. However, if the weather is cold or wet we recommend you prioritise staying warm and dry, even if this means that your fabulous outfit might stay hidden during the performance itself. 

I have difficulty walking. Is there anything you can do to help?

Yes, absolutely – we would really like to help. We have a chauffeured golf buggy on site for the duration of the summer festival, and outside of the summer we would be very pleased to help with any access requirements you may have. Wheelchair transfers can be arranged, or wheelchair seats can be booked via the box office at time of purchase. Please call 01858 437 451 for further information.
